Freight forwarding with the customs done in-house

C&L Declarations arranges road, groupage, sea and air freight into and out of Ireland through our logistics partners, and files the customs declarations for the same shipment ourselves. You deal with one contact for the transport and the paperwork, and you get one quote covering both before anything moves. We're a customs brokerage and freight forwarder working for businesses across Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

What freight can we arrange?

Full loads

A dedicated truck or trailer from collection to delivery, between Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

Part loads and groupage

Pallets and part loads that share a trailer with other freight, when you don't need a whole truck.

Sea freight

Full or shared containers into and out of Irish ports, with the customs entry done by us.

Air freight

Urgent or high-value consignments booked through our partners, with the customs declaration handled here.

Why book freight and customs with one company?

Because the paperwork has to match the load before it can board or clear. When we arrange the transport and file the declarations, the invoice, the vehicle registration, the sailing and the customs references are checked against each other before collection. If Revenue asks for documents later, the person who filed the entry deals with it, not a third party you've never spoken to.

Which customs filings do we handle for your freight?

Imports into Ireland

Import declarations on Revenue's AIS, with duty and VAT worked out before the goods arrive.

Exports from Ireland

Export declarations on Revenue's AES, with the MRN sent to you and the haulier.

GB-Ireland crossings

ENS, PBN, GMR and UK export declarations for RoRo loads. T1 and T2 transit arranged through our transit partner.

Beer, cider and spirits

We file the EMCS e-AD and the export declaration together for excise goods.

Questions we get asked

Frequently asked questions

Do you have your own trucks?

No. C&L Declarations is a customs brokerage and freight forwarder, not a haulier. We arrange the transport through our logistics partners and handle the customs declarations ourselves. You get one quote and one contact for both, and if anything changes between collection and delivery, you hear it from us.

Can you arrange groupage from Great Britain to Ireland?

Yes. We arrange pallets and part loads on shared trailers between Great Britain and Ireland through our partners. Each consignment on a shared trailer still needs its own customs declaration. The vehicle's PBN lists the MRNs for all of them, and on GB routes that use GVMS the GMR brings the declaration references together. We file for your goods and pass the references to the haulier.

Is customs included in the freight quote?

Yes. We quote the transport and the customs work together, as separate lines, so you can see each cost. Duty and VAT are not our fee: they're due to Revenue and depend on the goods, their origin and their value. We can pay them through our Revenue account and recharge them, or you pay them yourself. You get the full quote before anything is booked.

Do goods moving between Ireland and Northern Ireland need customs declarations?

No. Revenue says there are no customs declarations, tariffs or customs checks for goods moving between Ireland and Northern Ireland, and no safety and security filings. Goods that start in Great Britain are different: they need customs filings even when they travel through Northern Ireland. Tell us where the goods start and finish, and we'll tell you what the load needs.

Why do you ask which Incoterm we agreed?

Because it decides who arranges each part of the move and who deals with customs. Under EXW the buyer arranges collection, transport and both export and import clearance. Under DAP the seller delivers to the named place, and the buyer handles and pays for import clearance. Under DDP the seller also clears the goods for import and pays the import duty. Tell us the Incoterm and we quote the parts that fall to you.
